It has been reported to
us that there is a scam being circulated around the hay industry.
Specifically, a producer or broker receives an
email which tells them that the party will purchase their hay, period, no phone
calls, no human contact of any kind. The scammer then waits a few days and
emails back that they are overseas and will have their "freight forwarder" or
attorney send them a CERTIFIED CHECK, for more than the amount of the purchase.
They then instruct the producer or broker that they need to immediately deposit
the certified check, ship the hay and send to the purchaser a certified check or
money order for the difference. The "Certified Check" is a forgery,
however, it takes several weeks for the banks to realize that it is a forgery
and is worthless. At that point the producer is out the hay and a pile of
cash.
THIS IS A SCAM. WE HAVE
HEARD OF SEVERAL PRODUCERS WHO HAVE INADVERTENTLY FALLEN FOR THIS SCAM. It
is simply a new twist on an old scam. The producers who have alerted us to
this scam all say that they were contacted by a party calling himself ALEX
SMITH.

members with a safe marketplace. We will be providing a number of resources here to help you.
While there are other similar sites which offer hay for sale, they are
not visited frequently or they do not offer all the information and
features
which will be offered here. ADDITIONALLY THERE IS ANOTHER MAJOR HAY
LISTING SITE WHICH NO LONGER SEEMS TO ACCEPT ADS. PLEASE USE THIS
SITE AS IT'S REPLACEMENT.
We have fees for listing ads which we
have kept reasonable. We need to charge these fees so that we can
maintain this site and pay for the expenses involved. Our fees are
minimal compared to some of the other listing sites out there.
